The 2026-2027 school year has begun in the West region. Governor Awa Fonka Augustine conducted a tour of several schools in the Bamboutos and Noun departments on Monday, September 7, 2026, to verify the effectiveness of the start of the school year. The goal was to reassure the educational community about security measures taken by the government. He was accompanied by the prefects of Bamboutos, David Dalor Dibango, and Noun, M. Chaïbou, as well as regional delegates for secondary and basic education. The first stop was the Bamboutos, where the governor visited the Babadjou bilingual high school, presiding over the flag-raising ceremony in front of nearly 3,000 students. He then visited the public bilingual school group, the bilingual high school, and the Bamenyam public school, as well as the construction site of the Galim agricultural high school. According to one account, the governor said he was satisfied to see students massively present in clean classrooms and the first lessons already being taught. The regional delegate for secondary education in the West, Omer Destin Kuimi, emphasized three messages for the educational community: discipline, hard work, and responsible use of artificial intelligence. The governor's message remained largely the same everywhere: attendance, collaboration between the population and defense and security forces, and vigilance. At the end of this regional tour, the governor reassured the educational community about the effectiveness of the start of the school year, without specifying whether other departments in the West would be visited in the coming days.
