Tiriane Balbine Nadège Noah has taken the reins of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) after the resignation of Maurice Kamto and Mamadou Mota. As the second vice-president of the party, she will lead the party during a critical period marked by internal tensions and disagreements with the public administration. Noah has experience in managing the party, having previously served as interim president in 2019 when Kamto and other party leaders were detained. Her first major task will be to restore calm within the party and among its militants, before embarking on the task of winning votes. Another key challenge will be to ensure the legality and legitimacy of the party's actions. The Ministry of Territorial Administration, led by Paul Atanga Nji, had refused to recognize Kamto as the party's legal president, citing the law governing public meetings and demonstrations. This decision had put the party's participation in the 2027 municipal and legislative elections at risk. Noah's appointment has a strong symbolic dimension, as she becomes the first woman to lead the main opposition party in Cameroon. She will have to manage the internal crisis, face off against the Ministry of Territorial Administration, and rally the party's militants.
