Cameroonian Customs Blocks Over 1,000 Undeclared Phones
Since the effective implementation of the mobile terminal control device on September 1, 2026, the Cameroonian customs have blocked more than 1,000 undeclared phones. Since April, 386,000 devices have been declared and the mechanism has generated more than 1.8 billion FCFA in revenue for the public treasury. The measure, announced by the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, aims to control the entry of mobile terminals into the Cameroonian territory. The customs have set up a dedicated platform, Dounane MPIE, to accompany users in regularizing their situation. The measure also affects phones activated in groups on the same SIM card after April 1, 2026, provided they have not been used continuously. More than 1,000 phones have already been blocked since September 1, and the authorities do not yet have a definitive figure on the number of additional devices that may be affected in the coming weeks.
