Nchare Yen

According to UNESCO, Nchare Yen was the son of a Tikar chief. Around 1394, he founded the Bamum kingdom at Foumban, which became one of the most structured kingdoms of the western Cameroonian highlands. Seventeen rulers, known as mfon, succeeded him at the head of the Bamum kingdom, including Sultan Njoya at the end of the nineteenth century. The kingdom retained its own administration and institutions into the colonial period.
