Félix-Roland Moumié

According to the archives of Radio Télévision Suisse, Félix-Roland Moumié, a doctor and politician born on 1 November 1925, was one of the figures of the struggle for Cameroon’s independence. According to the historian John O’Sullivan, he completed his medical studies in Dakar, returned to Cameroon as a medical officer, and became president of the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon at its founding on 10 April 1948; after the party was banned he led the UPC from outside the country, from Cairo, Conakry and Accra. Poisoned with thallium in Geneva, he died at the city’s hospital. The two sources differ on the date: the Swiss archive, made at the time, gives 3 November 1960, the 1972 article 17 October.
