According to the French National Assembly’s Sycomore database, André-Marie Mbida was born on 1 January 1917 at Endinding, in Cameroon, and died on 2 May 1980 in Paris. Elected deputy for Cameroon in the French National Assembly from 2 January 1956 to 8 December 1958 and sitting with the Socialist group, he presided from May 1957 over Cameroon’s first autonomous government, from which he was removed in February 1958. He then founded the Parti des démocrates camerounais and was held as a political prisoner from 1962 to 1965 in the north of the country.
