According to the French National Assembly’s Sycomore database, Alexandre Douala Manga Bell was born on 3 December 1897 in Douala and died in the same city on 19 September 1966. The son of Rudolf Duala Manga Bell, condemned to hanging in 1914 for opposing the German expropriations, he studied in Germany before becoming a planter. A representative for Cameroon in both Constituent Assemblies from 21 October 1945, then deputy for Cameroon under the Fourth Republic, he sat with the Mouvement républicain populaire and, from 1956, with the Indépendants d’outre-mer.
